The Call of the Wild & White Fang

Vintage Classics · first published 1903 · 288 pages

A pampered house dog is stolen from his home and sold to haul sleds in the far northern gold fields.

Told close to the animal's senses, it moves fast through snow, hunger and loyalty, with little sentimentality and much feeling.

For a night of snow against the window.

About this book

Buck lives an easy life on a judge's estate in California until a gardener sells him to dog traders during the Klondike rush. In the North he learns the hard rules of the trail and the team, and something older in him begins to stir. Some of his masters are cruel or careless, and one treats him with real affection. This volume pairs the story with White Fang, which follows a wolf-dog traveling the other way, from wild to tame.
