Pedro Páramo

Grove Press · first published 1955 · 128 pages

A man travels to a dusty Mexican town to find the father he never knew, and finds it full of murmurs.

Short fragments shift between times and speakers without warning, and the gaps between them feel as important as the words.

For a night of heat without a breeze.

About this book

Juan Preciado promises his dying mother that he will go to Comala and find his father, Pedro Páramo. The town he reaches is silent and scorched, and the people he meets speak strangely of the past. Through their memories the father slowly comes into view: a landowner who took what he wanted, and the woman he longed for over many years. The novel is very short, but it lingers like a dream.
