Dracula
Penguin Classics · first published 1897 · 560 pages
A young lawyer travels to a castle in the Carpathians on business and discovers that his host is no ordinary nobleman.
It is told entirely through diaries, letters and newspaper clippings, so the dread builds as the pieces are laid side by side.
For a night when the dogs won't settle.
About this book
Jonathan Harker goes to Transylvania to help Count Dracula buy property in England, and slowly realizes he is a prisoner. Back home, his fiancée Mina and her friend Lucy meet strange events of their own after something comes ashore on the English coast. A small group, guided by the Dutch doctor Van Helsing, gathers to understand and resist it. The documents read like evidence, and their ordinary details make the fear feel close.
