## Card

Four sisters of a fading Osaka family search, again and again, for a husband for the shy third sister.
Long, unhurried, and full of seasons, meals, and letters, it reads like living alongside a family for years.
For a night with nowhere to be.

## About this book

In the late 1930s, the Makioka family's prosperity is behind it, but its pride remains. Sachiko, the second sister, runs the household and the endless rounds of marriage talks for Yukiko, quiet and hard to match, while the youngest, Taeko, pursues an independent life of her own. Cherry blossom outings, illnesses, and a great flood mark the passing years as war draws nearer. What stays is a tender record of a way of life slipping quietly away.
